Dave East & Papoose Discuss Fatherhood & Postpartum Depression

Dave East and Papoose recently sat down for a conversation to discuss fatherhood, postpartum depression, and more for the second episode of Listen To Black Men. Speaking with CassiusLife and MadameNoire, the two New York artists explained how a relationship changes once kids get involved.

“Once kids come into play, it ain’t the same situation,” Dave East said. “It ain’t just you coming home and we fuck. It’s never the same. It’s a big girl and little girl, I can’t just come in the spot butt-naked, out the shower, ‘Wassup baby. What we doing?’”

“When a woman gives birth, it’s a big deal,” Papoose added. “I think that as a man, you gotta understand what your woman just went through and you really gotta be patient and roll out that red carpet and you really gotta play a whole different role. I mean she just had a baby. You can’t expect her to go to the fucking club.”

Dave East has two daughters with Millie Colon, born in 2016 and 2020. Papoose has two children with his ex-girlfriend, Yvetta Lashley, who were born in 1996 and 1999. Additionally, Papoose and Remy Ma welcomed their first child back in 2018. The couple celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary, last week. “Happy ‘FIFTEENTH YEAR’ year wedding anniversary to my beautiful, smart, wife!!” Papoose wrote at the time on Instagram. “Woww We’ve laughed together, cried together, lost together, won together. Through it all we stayed ‘TOGETHER.’ Togetherness/unity is powerful! She’s the best wife a man could ask for. Make sure y’all wish her well. God is the greatest!! #15 #blacklove.”

Elsewhere on the show, Papoose explained his views on marriage. “When you get married, you take wedding vows. He has to honor his queen.
