‘Black Panther’ and ‘The Color Purple’ Stuntwoman/Actress Carrie Bernans Seriously Injured in Alleged NYC Hit & Run

New Year’s Day began with several deadly car accidents across New York City, but Carrie Bernans, an actress and stuntwoman, was lucky to be alive after an alleged hit and run left her seriously injured in the early hours of the new year.

As reported by Deadline, Bernans is an actress and stuntwoman who has worked in big franchises that include Marvel’s Black Panther, Avengers Infinity War, and the sequel, End Game. She most recently was in the 2023 remake of The Color Purple. She, along with eight others at the scene was hurt in what appears to be a hit-and-run. She was hit when a driver smashed into the outdoor dining shed of Chirp, a midtown Peruvian restaurant. The sheds are a common sight in New York City post covid and are usually made of wood and offer little protection from a car barreling into the makeshift structures. NYPD was close by and pounced on the scene and the car just after the driver tried backing up, and rammed into a separate vehicle in the process.

Get this, Bernans is a new mom, and thankfully, her newborn was not with her at the time of the chaos. She is undergoing surgery after being deemed in stable condition. Although stabilized, she has a long way to go, says her mother, who posted about the ordeal on Instagram. “She’s still in so much pain and can’t answer calls at this time…She’s in so much pain but healing. She was involved in a traumatic incident in NYC where a man, early 40s was trying to escape a hit and run and ran into multiple cars before hitting a food stand that her friend & her were walking near. It ended up knocking her unconscious and [pinned] her under the stand. She was under it unaware of what was happening,” posted by Patricia Lee.

“She has a few broken bones, fractures, & chipped teeth but thanking God that she’s alive. Nine people were injured in his attempted escape from the hit & run, including 3 police officers. Police caught him shortly after and arrested him. Amidst the chaos of the New Year’s incident, she’s holding onto an immense sense of gratitude for life itself.”

“This setback hasn’t deterred her belief that something remarkable is still being crafted by God. Despite the injuries sustained in the collision caused by a hit-and-run in NYC, she’s filled with hope and faith in the unfolding of a beautiful new chapter. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she navigates this path toward recovery and new beginnings.” Lee thanked “all the first responders, police, strangers, my friend Katherine, family & friends who’s helped her.”

Hopefully, she pulls through so she can be there for her new baby, family and career that was seemingly just taking off to new heights.
