The elusive Kid Cudi, who has been recovering from a leg injury, has found firm footing on his latest music video for the song, ‘Superboy’, off his latest album, Insano (Nitro Mega). The video features Cudi in Seoul, South Korea, where he can be seen rapping, singing and performing at Dongdaemun History and Culture Park.
This song makes me feel like I’m flying in space, speeding through planets 🪐 A true masterpiece 👌🏽 https://t.co/wx3YWtQN50

If you haven’t heard the track already, the song is a curious approach to melodic hip hop that combines quirky experiments (both vocally, and in terms of production), and represents the growth within Cudi’s sound. From the get go, one can tell it’s a Cudi song, and one that is very unique to his sound in 2024 — a year where he refuses to put projects on the back burner.
Making excellent use of boomy, fat 808s and lush synthscapes, Cudi reinforces the bass groove with low pitched vocal layers to add a unique low end depth to the track, which tethers the song to a bodily experience — while the remaining frequency spectrum encourages you to float.
This, in conjunction with his signature ethereal vocal harmonies and uplifting hook style, makes the song a sticky one — which is really the best thing for a musician outside of the sound of traditional pop music, especially someone like Cudi, who is best known for his unique experimentation. On the track, you can also hear low pitched ad libs, which is a style seldom adopted in terms of the mixing of rap vocals. Clearly, Cudi has wholeheartedly given himself to the project, and it comes out beautifully, especially in terms of his screen presence, where he looks genuinely happy and at ease.
SUPERBOY was directed by GOLDWATCH and myself, filmed during my trip to South Korea last year. Love to everyone I met on the journey and shout out to The Teriyaki Boyz especially my guy Verbal!!! ✌🏾

The video supports the overall track atmosphere very naturally, and almost seems like a memoir or dream sequence, that documents the artist’s experience of South Korea and live performances. If you’re a Cudi fan, the track will remind you why you became one in the first place. The experience in nothing short of a warm hug from Cudi to the fans, and the fact that he shows no hesitation in getting it across is truly commendable. Check out the song below!
