‘Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero’ Documentary Coming to HBO

After a dramatic debut at the Toronto Film Festival last year, the documentary “Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero” is set to make its television premiere on HBO on January 27 at 8 p.m., simultaneously streaming on HBO Max.

The documentary, offering an intimate look into Lil Nas X’s first global tour, faced an unexpected hurdle during its world premiere in Toronto. A bomb threat delayed the gala screening scheduled at Roy Thomson Hall, one of TIFF’s premier venues. The threat, which specifically targeted the artist for being a Black queer artist, led to a 20-minute delay in Lil Nas X’s arrival as TIFF security conducted a thorough sweep to ensure safety.

Directed by Carlos López Estrada and Zac Manuel, with editing by Andrew Morrow, “Long Live Montero” promises to provide fans and viewers with behind-the-scenes insights into Lil Nas X’s journey during his groundbreaking tour. The documentary captures the highs and challenges of the tour, offering a unique perspective on the artist’s experiences and the impact of his music.

Despite the initial setback, Lil Nas X and the documentary team proceeded with the screening once the threat was deemed not credible. Now, HBO audiences will have the chance to witness the unfolding of Lil Nas X’s journey in “Long Live Montero” and gain a deeper understanding of the artist’s remarkable career.
