Charlotte newcomer MESSIAH! has announced that his highly-anticipated new album the villain wins! will be out on 7/26 and shared the LP’s lead single, “Burden of Truth” with Malaya, along with an accompanying video. A groove-heavy track bolstered by a feel-good visual, “Burden of Truth” is a sunny outing defined by melodic vocals, an infectious hook, and an appearance from the heavily co-signed Michigan indie-R&B crooner Malaya, who has heard her name called for features from jazz staples such as Keyon Harold, Theo Croker, Robert Glasper and Terrace Martin as well as hip-hop mainstays Snoop Dogg, YG, Smino, Monte Booker, Jay Versace, and more.
MESSIAH!’s second release of 2024, “Burden of Truth” follows last month’s “Silent Heel” (feat. MAVI and Ovrkast) as well as the rapper’s acclaimed 2022 tape PERFECT 7. “Burden of Truth” arrives on the heels of a strong year for MESSIAH! (14M+ Streams), who recently toured with both longtime collaborator and fellow Charlotte rapper MAVI on his 2023 Laughing so Hard, it Hurts World Tour and Wiki on his April 2024 Midwest tour run. A 35+ date world tour on the horizon, MESSIAH! is continuing his hot streak with “Burden of Truth” with Malaya as he prepares to release his forthcoming album the villain wins! on July 26th.
“Burden of Truth” marks the second offering out of what has been a prolific creative period for the Charlotte rapper. A genre-bending artist known for his ready embrace of fresh ideas, recent months have seen the ever forward-thinking art rap mainstay experiment with new sonic landscapes that expand on the soulful sound that earned him his cult following with releases like PERFECT 7 and Thru the Winter. After two years spent meticulously fine-tuning his sound in the studio, MESSIAH!’s next chapter promises to elevate the artist to new heights, showcasing why he’s one of Charlotte’s must-watch young talents.
