Prime Video Drops ‘Road House’ Trailer Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Jessica Williams and Conor McGregor in Remake of 1989 Film

I don’t think anyone had this one on their bingo cards, but Amazon MGM Studios released the first trailer for Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House remake, which looks good!

If you don’t know, the original Road House was a 1989 film starring the late great Patrick Swayze, who sadly died from pancreatic cancer in 2009. That film is considered a cult classic today.

The official description of the remake reads, “In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the 80s cult classic, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.”

Doug Liman directs the reboot, and if you know his work from The Bourne Identity franchise, Edge of Tomorrow, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, you can expect a heart-pounding style of action, with a compelling story and even a bit of light comedy. Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry pen the script. Producers are Joel Silver, JJ Hook, and Alison Winter. Serving as executive producers are Aaron Auch and Audie Attar.

Road House premieres March 21 on Prime Video. Liman recently wrote a piece on Deadline on why he is actually boycotting his own film’s premiere at SXSW. Get this: essentially, he is protesting the streaming-only release and feels the film should be released in theaters. Judging by some of the comments in the trailer on YouTube, many would agree with Liman.

Starring alongside Gyllenhaal are Daniela Melchior, Jessica Williams, Conor McGregor, Billy Magnussen, Joaquim de Almeida, Lukas Gage, Arturo Castro, B.K. Cannon, Beau Knapp and Darren Barnet. Dominique Columbus, Bob Menery, Catfish Jean, Kevin Carroll, Travis Van Winkle, and Hannah Lanier round out the cast.
