When artists pass away unexpectedly, it’s usually bittersweet seeing how their music is dealt with. Posthumous releases can often feel a little like they’re taking advantage of a situation, but fans tend to welcome the new music anyway. With that being said, Mac Miller’s career after his tragic death has been handled with a lot of grace.
The rapper’s estate put out his Circles album in 2020 around what would have been his 28th birthday and five years later, we’re back just a couple of days from what would have been his 33rd.
Balloonerism was an album Mac was working on in the mid-2010s but later scrapped. Tonight, fans get to hear a version of it. The only feature other than Delusional Thomas, a Mac alter ego, is SZA.
