T-Roy & SavageBaby Dee from Norfolk, VA brings a stylishly seductive track that layers rhythmic, Hip hop music of pure soul and storytelling. “Voices” hits with precisely the level of impact required to follow up such a characterful release by “Sound of the streets”.. It’s three minutes and twelve seconds of uniquely creative, compelling music and performance, and it sets in stone the fact that these artists are more than worthy of your attention.
The genre tags lay the foundation fairly well for this release, but they don’t really allow for the variety and creativity that emerges as each song plays out. The Asthmatic’s sound is stylish, energetic, soulful, and satisfying in the way that any great hip hop music-soaked record should be. The opening instrumentation for “Voices” paves the way for what is a melodic and entertaining show of storytelling delivered by a gritty and emotionally captivating leading voice.
“Never Felt Love From The Streets” brings a certain sense of rhythm and space. Your attention is drawn to the voice, your body is energized by the beat, and your mind is intrigued and provoked by the unfolding lyricism. That slightly RnB with Hip hop lingers in the distance once again. The way this track has been crafted makes for an incredibly satisfying and memorable experience. The song has so much character and poetry and style, the effect is brilliant. A personal highlight.
The lyrics to this song are superb, though with the swagger and rhythm taking on such a strong role it’s not necessarily the story that first reaches out for your affection. You lose yourself to the energy of it initially, the effect of that hip-hop attitude, the simple yet immediately memorable melody. Once you’ve crossed paths with the hook you start to wonder what you missed, and with the nature of the song being incredibly addictive and easy to listen to on repeat – it’s no challenge to go back and replay the whole thing.
